What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

These awards cover the employment and learning skills you need for a successful career in the healthcare sector, including teamwork, understanding employment rights and responsibilities and problem-solving.

You will learn on the job in the work environment.

The qualifications will be assessed by one externally-set, internally-marked assignment, and portfolios of evidence for the other units.

Which Level is right for me?

Level 2
You are working in the healthcare sector and have some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised.
Level 3
You are working in the healthcare sector and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring work meets the required standard.

Depending on the route you choose, these qualifications can help you to progress in a wide range of roles within the health sector, including:

  • Dental nurse
  • Porter
  • Housekeeper
  • Gardener
  • Catering assistant
  • Operating department assistant
  • Roles supporting healthcare professionals such as doctors, physiotherapists, midwives and nurses.
What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified assessors - you can train internal members of staff or recruit specially.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

  • Level 3 Diploma in Allied Health Profession Support (4223-14)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Maternity and Paediatric Support (4223-15)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Perioperative Support (4223-16)
  • Level 3 Support Diploma in Dental Nursing (4234-31)

Anyone can take this qualification, but you must make sure all your learners can access the resources they need to complete it.

Level 2

Level 2 will suit you if you are working in the healthcare sector and have some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised.

This level comprises five mandatory units:

  • Understand employment responsibilities and rights in health, social care or children and young people's settings
  • Prepare for an apprenticeship
  • Use enquiry and investigative techniques to solve problems
  • Manage own learning
  • Participate in teamwork.

  • Prepare for a level 3 apprenticeship
  • Manage own learning
  • Use research skills to solve problems
  • Participate through team leading.
