What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

The IVQ Advanced Diploma in Oil and Gas Maintenance covers a number of key areas, including:

  • Maintenance of mechanical and electrical plant and equipment
  • Dealing with defects in mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Maintenance of instrumentation and control plant and equipment
  • Systems for oil and gas maintenance
  • Health and safety at work.

The range of subjects you cover will depend on the specialisation you choose.

The IVQ Advanced Diploma in Oil and Gas Maintenance is assessed on the submission of a portfolio of evidence to cover the practical and underpinning knowledge criteria. This portfolio may include simulated tasks, assessor observation, and knowledge tests carried out by the centre

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) you'll need to provide your learners with a suitable learning environment and the resources they need to complete the practical and theoretical aspects of the qualification. You will need qualified internal assessors.

All learners should have a good level of experience and background knowledge related to the oil and gas industry. You must make sure they can access all the resources they need to complete the qualification.

Level 3

The Level 3 IVQ Advanced Diploma in Oil and Gas Operations (8510) focuses on the development of the underlying principles and practical skills required in the oil and gas industry. The qualification is designed to deliver a high level of occupational capability and provide a sound foundation for progression.

There are four pathways available to candidates, depending on candidate requirements and experience:

  • Mechanical Maintenance Technician
  • Electrical Maintenance Technician
  • Instrumentation Maintenance Technician
  • Process Technician.

Candidates will receive a certificate for each Advanced Award stage they achieve, starting with the core skills of their chosen pathway. The full Level 3 IVQ Advanced Diploma in Oil and Gas Operations certificate will be achieved on completion of the third stage of each pathway.
