The Diploma for Butlers can help you find a job as a Butler or take on a more senior role in a prestigious establishment or household, including gaining specialised skills to help you manage a team and a household.
The Diploma for Butlers is for anyone who works or wants to work as a Butler.
You don't need any previous butlering experience, but a background in hospitality would help you complete the qualification.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

Depending on the options you choose, you'll cover things like:

  • Housekeeping
  • Food service
  • Wines, spirits and cigars
  • Event management
  • Valeting duties.

To get a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) you will learn through practical sessions, group discussions or assignments.

VRQs are usually assessed by your training provider using assignments, practical task, exams or online tests.

You will complete an assignment for each unit. The assignments are made up of practical tasks and short answer questions.

Level 3
You work or want to work as a butler - you probably have some experience in the hospitality sector in a role working under supervision. You want to develop your knowledge and gain new skills to enable you to work as a butler in a range of organisations including private houses, quality hotels and overseas employers.

The Diploma for Butlers can help you in your role as a Butler or help you find a job as a butler in an Embassy, private firm, household or large hotel.

If you are interested in continuing to study after completing your qualification you could move on to:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership (7250)
  • Level 3 Award in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership Principles (7108)
What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) you will need qualified assessors – you can train internal members of staff or recruit specially.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Centres offering the Diploma for Butlers should be able to provide all learners with the opportunity to undertake a period of work experience in a private house, hospitality environment or similar.

Anyone can take this qualification, but you must make sure all your learners can access the resources they need to complete it.

It is recommended that all learners not currently working as butlers undertake a period of work experience lasting at least twelve weeks, as part of the qualification.

Is this level right for me?

You've worked as a butler for some time - with plenty of experience, you probably already have some supervisory responsibilities. You want a formal qualification that recognises your skills. You might be looking to manage a team in a larger establishment.

You complete 7 core units:

  • The maintenance of a safe and secure working environment
  • Customer/guest care procedures
  • Maintain effective working relationships
  • Housekeeping procedures for butlers
  • Food service operations for butlers (table and functions)
  • Introduction to wines, spirits and cigars for butlers
  • Valeting duties for butlers.
