City & Guilds acquires South African Assessment College

On 5 March 2012, City & Guilds broadened its international offering by bringing South African organisation, Assessment College, into the City & Guilds Group.

One of the largest trainer and assessor training providers in South Africa, Assessment College helps other training providers to comply with regulations and deliver best teaching practice.

The acquisition builds on the strong partnership City & Guilds and Assessment College have established after working together for over two years. It also capitalises on the 48% increase in vocational education that City & Guilds saw in South Africa in 2011.

Mike Dawe, Director of International at City & Guilds believes the acquisition will help grow vocational education in South Africa: ‘Quality is at the core of everything we do at City & Guilds,’ he said, pointing to the wider benefits the acquisition will have on City & Guilds’ work in the country.

‘By bringing Assessment College into the City & Guilds Group, we can further enhance the quality of the training and assessment of our training providers and offer a fuller service to employers that run, or would like to run, their own training provision.’
