Electric Vehicle Charging Installations (2921)

Last Updated: 17 May 2022

The UK is aiming to become net-zero by 2050. The transport sector is one of the UK’s largest emitters of CO2 and a major source of air pollution in cities. Decarbonizing transport is, therefore essential if the UK is to meet its goal of net zero emissions by 2050, one of the primary drivers enabling this strategy is through the Electric Vehicles. Sales globally for Electric vehicles have significantly increased over the last 3 years.

The result of more electric cars on the road requires an infrastructure in place for car users to charge their vehicles at their convenience. This suite of qualifications has been designed by industry and is aimed at practicing electricians wishing to upskill, to safely install and maintain Electric Vehicle charging posts. There are three separate markets these qualifications are intended for (Design and installation of domestic and small commercial electric vehicle charging installations, Design and Quality Assurance of largescale electric vehicle charging installations and Installation and maintenance of largescale electric vehicle charging installations). On completion learners will have the knowledge and understanding around topics such as energy storage systems and system earthing and supply arrangements.

The latter two qualifications will be launched shortly.
