These Level 5 qualifications in Primary Care and Health Management were developed in partnership with AMSPAR (The Association of Medical Secretaries, Practice Managers, Administrators and Receptionists), and are designed for those who need to develop the skills to keep a busy GP surgery or hospital department running smoothly.  They can also help you move into a senior management role in the healthcare sector.
You'll gain the skills needed to communicate effectively and manage staff, processes and healthcare resources at a high level.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

There are two qualifications to chose from:

  • Level 5 Certificate in Primary Care and Health Management
  • Level 5 Diploma in Primary Care and Health Management 
You will cover topics such as:
  • Managing medical ethics and legal requirements in a primary care and health environment
  • Financial management and budgeting in a primary care and health environment
  • Managing information and communication in a primary care and health environment
  • Developing and leading teams to achieve organisational goals and objectives 
  • Developing or improving services in a primary care or health environment
  • Developing critical thinking
  • Managing for efficiency and effectiveness
  • Managing recruitment
  • Becoming an effective leader

Assessments depend on which units you take - you could be assessed using written tests, assignments or a mini-portfolio.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

These qualifications can lead to a variety of jobs including:

  • GP Practice manager
  • Dental surgery manager
  • NHS trust staff.
What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

Anyone can take this qualification, but you must make sure all your learners have the potential and opportunity to complete it.

Learners will need at least two years' experience in the healthcare sector and be educated to at least Level 3 standard, with a good level of spoken and written English.

Depending on the units they choose, your learners will be assessed using external tests, written assignments, a portfolio of evidence, electronic assignments.

Assessment is via a business plan for the higher level diploma.
