The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Painting & Decorating is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the construction industry as a painter & decorator.  Learners could progress into employment as a painter & decorator, onto an apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking other qualifications at Level 3.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?
Learners interested in the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Painting & Decorating will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.

Compulsory topics include:
• The principles of construction
• Access equipment
• Preparation of surfaces for decoration
• Application of surface coatings
• Application of papers to walls and ceilings
• Producing decorative colour effects

Learners interested in the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Painting & Decorating (450) will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.

Compulsory topics include:
• Organising, planning and pricing construction work
• Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
• Applying hangings to walls and ceilings
• Producing specialist finishes for painted decorative work
• Producing specialist architectural finishes for decorative work
• Applying water-borne paint systems using airless equipment and high volume low pressure spray equipment

The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Painting & Decorating could lead to a job as a painter & decorator, working for a house building company, a property development company, or as part of a small business repairing and refurbishing buildings.  It could also lead to an apprenticeship in painting & decorating. 

The Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Painting & Decorating (450) could lead to the following employment opportunities:
• Painter & decorator working on commercial or domestic premises
• Self-employed painter & decorator working on domestic repair and refurbishment projects
