What Is Involved In Studying This Course?
For these Food and Beverage Service qualifications you'll most likely learn in a group environment with your training provider. In some cases, you may be able to complete parts of this qualification on the job, not just training provided in the workplace. You'll demonstrate what you've learned using both practical and knowledge assessments.

Which level is right for me?

Level 1
You are interested in working in front of house in a restaurant. You want to build the skills and knowledge you need to deliver a high level of service in a variety of environments.

Level 2
This level is suitable for you if you have already achieved the level 1 qualification and wish to progress, you are currently in employment and wish to further your knowledge and education.

Level 3
This level is suitable for those who wish to specialise in particular areas of food service, offering an opportunity to achieve the certificate and/or the diploma.  This can be taken in a full time environment or as part time by those in employment.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

Achieving a Food and Beverage Service qualification can help you work in roles such as:

  • Catering/Restaurant manager
  • Chef
  • Sommelier/Wine waiter
  • Waiter/Waitress

This qualification can also help you if you're interested in running your own business in the hospitality and catering area.

If you'd like to advance into a management role, you may wish to progress onto an additional qualification:

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership (7250)
  • In addition, we also have a number of Higher Level qualifications offered through ILM.
What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these Food and Beverage Service qualifications you'll need to provide your learners with a suitable learning environment and the resources they need to complete all aspects of the qualification.

While you'll likely deliver this qualification using a group-based learning setting, for some learners you may wish to design the qualification so it can be completed on the job in the workplace.

You'll assess learners via practical and knowledge assessments.

  • Centres currently offering the Levels 1 Certificate in Professional Food & Beverage Service (7103-01) will gain automatic approval for 7103-05/16/17
  • Centres currently offering the Levels 2 Diploma in Professional Food & Beverage Service (7103-02) will gain automatic approval for 7103-06/20/21
  • Centres offering the 7103-06 will be given automatic approval to offer the 7103-12.
