Electrical Power Engineering (2339)

These qualifications have been replaced by 2304 in March 2021. The updated qualification content is based on the National Occupational Standards developed by Energy & Utility Skills for the industry.

These qualifications are for those who work or would like to work in the Power industry and are available for job roles from wind turbine to meter installation. They include qualifications at levels 2 & 3 and some SCQF level 5 & 6. More SCQF Power Engineering can be found in scheme 2343.

Most of the qualifications form part of the Power Industry Apprenticeships Frameworks.

All are based on the National Occupational Standards developed by Energy & Utility Skills for the industry.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?
Qualifications are available to meet the need of most occupations in the power industry including. 
  • Power Plant Operations or Maintenance
  • Wind Turbine Maintenance 
  • Wind Turbine Installation
  • Substation Plant 
  • Underground Cables or Overhead Lines 
  • Metering
Knowledge qualifications are normally delivered away from work, in a classroom or workshop and assessed by multiple-choice questions or assignment and short-answer question papers.
 
Competence qualifications are normally assessed during real work activities.

Which level is right for me?

This will depend on your job role and might mean completing a level 2 qualification prior to a level 3.

For some occupations with a high degree of technical knowledge and skill you might move straight to level 3.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?
To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified assessors. You can train internal members of staff or recruit specially.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Level 2

This will suit you if you are completing an apprenticeship in the power industry and have some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised.

This level is ideal if you are completing an apprenticeship in the power industry and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring work meets the required standard.
