The Level 3 Advanced Technical Certificate, Diploma and Extended Diplomas in Agriculture are for learners who are interested in developing the specific technical and professional skills and knowledge that will lead to meaningful employment in the Agricultural industry. Learners will explore a wide range of industry areas including livestock, agricultural crops or farm mechanisation.

The Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Land-based Engineering is for learners who are interested in developing the specific technical and professional skills and knowledge that will lead to meaningful employment in the Land-based engineering industry. Learners will explore a wide range of compulsory topics.

Learners may progress into employment or within their current role or onto further learning including university or an Apprenticeship.

First teaching of these qualifications is September 2017


The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Agriculture is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the agricultural industry.  Learners could progress into employment, onto an Apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking other qualifications at Level 3.

 
The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Land-based Engineering is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the land-based engineering industry.   Learners could progress into employment, onto an Apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking other qualifications at Level 3.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?
Learners interested in the Level 3 Advanced Technical Certificate, Diploma and Extended Diplomas in Agriculture will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.

Compulsory topics include:
• Safe working in agriculture

• Agricultural crop production
• Livestock husbandry
• Plant and soil science
• Estate maintenance skills


Learners will also be able to choose additional optional topics, including:
• Forage crop production
• Root crop production
• Pollution and waste control
• Habitat management
• Dairy, sheep, beef, poultry and pig production
• Spreaders and sprayers
• Business planning and management
• Workshop practice
• Transmission systems
• Repairing cultivation and harvesting machinery

You can choose to specialise in:
• Livestock
• Arable
• Farm mechanisation

Learners interested in the Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Land-based Engineering will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.

• Repair diesel and petrol engines
• Repair land based electric systems
• Repair land based hydraulic systems
• Repair land based mechanical power transmission systems
• Repair land based hydrostatic and hydro-mechanical, CVT transmissions
• Calculations for land based service engineering

Learners interested in the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Land-based Engineering will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.

All the following topics are compulsory:
• Health and safety for land-based industries
• Land-based engineering workshop practices
• Transmission and driveline operation principles
• Engine operation principles
• Fabrication, cutting and joining
• Land-based vehicle electrics
• Hydraulic systems
• Land-based vehicle and machinery operation
• Working in the land-based engineering industry
• Work experience (150 hours)

Learners interested in the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Agriculture will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.

• Agricultural power unit and machinery operation
• Crop husbandry
• Farm animal production
• Farm estate maintenance
• Physiology of plants and animals
• Working in the agricultural industry
• Work experience on a farm enterprise (150 hours)
